Tournament Rules:

  • Who bats first will be determined by coin flip

  • Ejected players are to be suspended for the remainder of that game and may be suspended for a longer period if the Tournament Director deems it necessary.
  • A team must have 5 legally rostered players at all times to start & finish a game.  NO SHARING PLAYERS WITH OTHER TEAMS.
  • Protests must be filed prior to the next pitch. The Tournament Director is to rule immediately on the protest, and his/her decision is final.
  • Only (1) courtesy runner per inning.

What is "5 x 5 x 5" ?

How to play?

 

  •  A game consists of three (3) teams competing against each other in a six (5) innings 45"outs", no mercy rule game.

  •  Each team plays defense for two-thirds of an inning (9 "outs") and hits five (5) times.

  •  An "Infield Team" and an "Outfield Team" play defense. While the "Batting Team" hits.

  •  All three (3) teams rotate positions for one cycle (9 "outs") to complete one (1) inning

  • The winning team is the team that scores the most runs

  • Other than the three team format, all USSSA rules apply.

 

Breakdown of Teams:

 

  • The  Infield Team:  (5) person team that plays the following positions:

    • Pitcher, 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base and Shortstop for three (3) "outs" in an inning.

  • The Outfield Team: (5) person team that plays the following positions:

    • Catcher and the (4) outfield positions for three (3) "outs" in an inning.

  • The Batting Team:  (5), or six (6) person (with an EH 'extra hitter') team that bats until three (3) "outs" are recorded.

 

Game Rotations:

 

  • Once the "Batting Team" completes their turn at bat, they assume the "Outfield Team" positions

  • The "Infield Team" then takes their turn at bat, while the "Outfield Team" assumes the "Infield Team" positions.

  • Bat-Outfield-Infield-Bat rotation.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME DETERMINATION:

  1. Each team will play a minimum of three (3) games to determine if qualified to advance to the Championship Game.
  2. Top three (3) teams will play in the Championship Game based on the following priorities in order:
    a) Number of 1st Place finishes in qualifying games
    b) Number of 2nd Place finishes in qualifying games
    c) Total number of runs scored in qualifying games
